ARGENTUS The Silver Owl, Named Official Symbol of International Silver Day
International Silver Day (ISD) today introduces Argentus, The Silver Owl, as the official mascot and symbol of the global April 7 observance dedicated to silver.
Argentus takes his name from the Latin argentum, meaning silver. His form is drawn from the owl of Athena on the Athenian tetradrachm of the 5th–4th centuries BC — coins struck from Laurion silver that became one of the ancient world’s most trusted currencies. ISD brings those two symbols together: the owl of wisdom and silver itself.“
Argentus is a storyteller of silver’s past, a witness to its present, and a guardian of its future,” the organization said. The character represents silver’s place in money, culture, science, technology, and industry.
Argentus will appear across ISD’s website and social channels and is intended as the lasting public face of the day. Further details: internationalsilverday.com/argentus

April 7 2026 to Celebrate Silver’s Global Legacy
A grassroots global initiative uniting educators, investors, artisans, and industry leaders to honor silver’s 5,000-year impact and inspire its future.
The first-ever International Silver Day (ISD) will be celebrated on April 7, 2026 (AG47), marking the beginning of an annual worldwide observance dedicated to one of humanity’s most essential elements.
Founded in 2025 as a grassroots initiative, ISD aims to raise awareness of silver’s enduring contribution to civilization — from its ancient role in trade and currency to its modern importance in energy, technology, military, and medicine.
International Silver Day has already gained global acknowledgment and is endorsed by supporters across the silver ecosystem, with early supporters including First Majestic Silver, First Mint, The Silver Institute, Citizens for Sound Money, PeerMetals, and SilverPundit.
These organizations join a growing movement of educators, investors, artisans, and industry leaders uniting to celebrate silver’s legacy and promote understanding of its vital role in a sustainable future.
Silver’s atomic number 47 inspired the choice of date: April 7 → 4/7 → AG47.
The day symbolizes both silver’s scientific identity and its timeless cultural significance, bridging past and present in a single powerful symbol.
ISD’s mission is to bring together voices from every corner of the silver community — investors, collectors, industry professionals, miners, mints, museums, artisans, silversmiths, and enthusiasts — to highlight silver’s monetary legacy, industrial utility, and cultural symbolism.
The first celebration on April 7, 2026 will feature collaborative campaigns, educational content, and community events around the world.
